Paper Mache bowls are the perfect mix between natural texture and modern decor. What I love most about this DIY Restoration Hardware dupe is that you can make your bowl as large as you’d like in any color.
This bag of paper Mache is from Hobby lobby. I used 75% of the bag and about a cup and a half of water. The consistency should be like play doe. Mix it well and make sure you don’t have dry pieces.
Tip: There is ALOT of dust so, wear a mask or turn on a fan.
Protect your bowl with plastic wrap. Be sure to get rid of as many wrinkles as possible before applying your mache.
Tip: Apply a little bit of Petroleum Jelly between the bowl and plastic wrap to help remove the bowl later on. Make sure the jelly does not touch the paper.
Apply a thin layer all over the bowl. Use your wet hands to smoothen out any rough areas.
Since the original inspiration had a detail around the edge and base, I added my own. Be sure not to make them too thick because it takes a long time to dry.
3 days later .. I removed the bowl and it was still wet so, I decided to place a fan on it and then it dried pretty quickly.
