If you are planning on creating an accent wall and looking for new and fun ideas, Id first recommend peel and stick wallpaper. It is perfect for people that live in a rental or don’t have enough time for a DIY painting project. Peel and stick wallpaper is easy to install and affordable. If you choose a removable option, then you can change it whenever you feel like your home needs an update. The wallpaper can mimic natural textures, so creating a wood accent wall is straightforward or you can create a magical children’s room with fun colors and patterns.
Please note that “Peel and Stick” means that you do not have to use water to install the wallpaper like traditional wallpapers. You must check the description details before buying if you are looking for removable or temporary wallpaper.

This style can be done free hand or you can buy premade templates on Etsy. Id suggest using wood or primed MDF board found at your local hardware store. The width of your sticks should be no more than 2-3 inches for a complex design (like the white wall above) and 3-4 inches for simple large scale designs (green wall).

A board and batten accent wall will add character to the space while being affordable. As an interior designer, I use board and batten to make a subtle statement in modern rooms. You can cover the whole wall or half of it. Either way, it is guaranteed to make a remarkable statement in any space. A navy board and batten wall add style and moody vibes to the bedroom. The great thing about this design is that you can choose to have it all over the room or just on one wall. You can also choose to make this design from floor to ceiling, or at any height you like best.
Wainscotting
Wainscotting is a timeless feature that adds style and sophistication to classic designs. The lower half of the interior wall is covered with wood panels. It adds depth and character to a room while strengthening the traditional decor themes. The height of this paneling is usually between 36 – 42 inches.
Shiplap Accent wall
We have all seen that classic farmhouse design but what brings it all together is that perfect textured wall called Shiplap. This accent wall idea can be installed horizontal or vertical. You can also choose to have smooth boards (like the example above or reclaimed wood pieces depending on how much texture you want.
Classic Decorative Wall Paneling
Wall paneling doesn’t have to be an accent wall. For certain designs like glam, french or classic, it is common to see floor-to-ceiling decorative paneling. This style usually contains thinner MDF or wood molding and frames out the entire room. This style is usually custom to fit the size of your space but you can find premade wall panels to help you get started. For this wall paneling, you may need a contractor but id recommend looking up a youtube video and giving it a try for yourself!
